Time Management and Writing

Managing Your Time: "Time management should be a high priority as you begin your writing project" (Palmquist 47).

Having a full schedule is hard enough on any person and can cause a person to stay up late with a cup or two of coffee. But the important thing for everyone to remember and learn is time management. Without this special little tool in the toolbox, things (life) can get very difficult. I would have to agree with Palmquist that time management is important and should be a high priority in any subject or aspect of your life. It is important because when people (in this case students) have so many assignments going on all at once, they can lose track of which assignment comes first and when the deadlines are. Having a calendar or an agenda can help with time management.

When it comes to writing, there are many steps for a writer to complete before they have their final draft. The first step would be to find a conversation and listen in on it. Get a feel for what is being asked. Usually picking a topic for any writing assignment can be very difficult because there are so many to choose from. But the important thing is to pick a topic that can be written most about, which leads to the next step: developing your ideas (Palmquist 45-6). In this step, the purpose is to make sure that the attention of the readers’ is obtained, analyze the topic to the fullest, and evaluate the topic until the readers’ are convinced or persuaded to the topic. Compiling a list of ideas can help start the writer’s draft.  Once the main topics of the paper are chosen, the writer must expand on those ideas by adding information from collected sources and readings can further develop the idea. The third and most important step(s) is drafting and revising. Making several drafts can improve the paper and can allow the writer to add extra sources and information that is crucial to the paper or make it more interesting for the readers. With the drafts comes editing and more rewriting and more editing and even more rewriting. The goal is to polish the paper and make sure that there are no mistakes. And the most important thing to do while writing is to make sure that every source is cited correctly. If the paper still needs more work go to a friend or the professor and ask for them to edit the paper and add some input. Input can be very usual when it comes to successfully writing a fantastic paper. It allows the writer to see their mistakes and correct them and also helps them see where they need improvement in.

Anyone who has written a paper (which should be everyone) knows that writing isn’t something that can be finished in a matter of minutes and turned in. The paper would be given a failing grade that isn’t what any student wants. It wouldn’t have been worth doing it in the first place. Writing a paper takes time and a lot of hard work to make a very decent paper. This is why time management is so important because without it, the writer wouldn’t have given themselves enough time to write a paper that is worth reading. Being able to manage time (especially in writing) can save a lot of people from heartache and pain.
